Ash
A native British tree yielding wood that's been used for millennia for furniture-making, tool handles (it's light and strong) and is also, unfortunately, a tree that is susceptible to a disease known as Ash Dieback, which came to the UK in 2012. This means there is a lot of ash timber available at present, but it's not one of the main ones we use because it's best used in fairly large items. A lovely wood though and a great tree for climbing. It also makes brilliant firewood which is a bit unfortunate if you're trying to laser-cut it as it sometimes sets the workshop on fire. Just saying.
